What is Low-Code Development?

As organizations began to seek new ways to keep up with the competition in their fields, work with their partners and customers and collaborate internally, digitalization became a necessity, and so did real-time digital solutions. As a result, the use of Low-Code development platforms became inevitable.

Low Code development is an application and software development approach that requires little or no coding. This approach enables users with little or no coding or programming knowledge to deliver ready-to-use applications with easy-to-use features such as drag and drop components and other pre-built modules.

Low-code development platforms have tools and services that automatically handle coding, and today it is changing how application development is happening. These platforms help organizations solve business problems, make lasting impacts, and increase productivity. They can speed up software development time ten times what it would take to do so traditionally.

Even though this software development method has been around for some time, the pandemic shot it into prominence. As organizations began to seek new ways to keep up with the competition in their fields, work with their partners and customers and collaborate internally, digitalization became a necessity, and so did real-time digital solutions. As a result, the use of Low-Code development platforms became inevitable.

According to a report by G2, about 42% of enterprises are already on Low-Code platforms, and 10% were planning to get on it at the time of filing the report. The projection of revenue generation for the Low-code development market is about $187 billion in 2030.

Meanwhile, with the advancement in technology and the surge in its usage, expectations for digital experiences are becoming very high, and there appears to be little capacity in the coding workforce to accommodate the growing digital demands of society.

According to US Labor statistics, with an estimated total of just 400,000 graduates per annum, there were about 1.4 million Computer Science job vacancies at the end of 2020.

The shortage of traditional developers coupled with the high level of productivity Low-code development platforms provides for businesses have helped to catapult it to the limelight in the market. Despite this, businesses still need to understand scenarios better where they need to deploy Low-code.

Since Low-code development platforms eliminate complexities in the application development process, it is limited by their poor flexibility. It is sometimes considered not rich enough in terms of features to help develop sophisticated user interfaces and other custom applications.

Low-Code development is concerned with accelerating business results by making workflow seamless and empowering citizen developers. It is indeed the future of business.
